    887 Visa Australia

The 887 visa is a permanent residency visa for those who’ve already taken the first step by living and working in regional Australia. It’s designed for holders of certain provisional visas such as the 475, 487, 489, 495, 496, or a Bridging visa A or B after your
    application for a subclass 487, 489, or 495 visa.

Notably, the holder of one of the abovementioned eligible visas must have held and complied with the conditions of said visa for a total of two (2) years.

    This visa allows you to:

    • Live in Australia in an indefinite period
    • Render work and pursue studies in Australia
    • Enrol in Medicare, Australia’s health care scheme
    • Travel to and from Australia up to five (5) years
    • Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residency
    • Apply for Australian citizenship, once eligible

    887 Visa Requirements Checklist

Taking the leap towards permanent residency? Ensure you tick off these essential Australian visa 887 requirements:

    • territory-nominated) or a designated Australian region (if family-sponsored) for at least two (2) years

    • You must hold or have held an eligible visa such as subclass 475, 487, 489, 495, and 496.
    • You must satisfy the Department’s health and character requirements.
    • You must have signed the Australian values statement, have no debt to AU Government, or have an immigration history of refused or cancelled visas

Skilled Regional Visa 887 Application Process

Applying for the 887 visa involves several crucial steps:

    1

    Check Your Eligibility

Do you tick all the boxes of what you satisfy to be granted this permanent visa? Review all the eligibility requirements or have an Australian immigration agent evaluate your qualifications against the core criteria. This way, you’ll know if you 100% qualify or what specific conditions you need to work more on.

    2

    Gather Your Documents

Compile the necessary evidence of your residency, employment, and current visa status and ensure they’re all up to date and
accurate. These mandatory documentary requirements are:

Residency Documents – Includes title deeds, rental contracts or leases, utility bills, and school records

Employment Documents – Work documents such as payslips, employment letter with company letterhead, superannuation
documents, or a relevant contract with your employment history

Identity Documents – ensure you have accurate identification documents including a valid passport with photos, a national ID card if you have, or name change proof if applicable, such as a marriage certificate or any document that will prove this.

Additional Requirements – English language test result showing you have ‘functional’ level English, police clearances and medical certificates for the character and health requirements, respectively.

Dependent Documents – If applying with a partner and/or children, attach relevant documents such as proof of relationship with each applicant, their individual identification documents, and parental responsibility documents for underaged applicants,
    if required

    3

    Apply Online

Submit your application via the Department of Home Affairs’ online portal and see to it that you have attached all necessary
documents to guarantee your visa grant. You can be inside or outside Australia at the time of application.

    4

    Pay the Application Fee

Your application will not be reviewed and processed unless you paid the visa fees. You can pay via your ImmiAccount.

    5

    Await Assessment

Your application will undergo a thorough review, during which additional information may be requested, so make it a habit to check your ImmiAccount from time to time. If you hire a Sydney immigration lawyer from Parish Patience, we’ll communicate with the Department on your behalf and constantly update you.

    6

    Receive Your Visa

If successful, you’ll be granted permanent residency and a new chapter in Australia begins!

887 Visa Processing Time and Fees

Visa 887 processing time can greatly differ based on application volume and individual circumstances. Generally, expect a timeframe of as early as within two (2) months or as relatively late as 21 months.

    • 50% of applications – typically processed within 72 Days
    • 90% of applications: typically processed within 21 Months

For 887 visa fees, meanwhile, the base application charge is A$475 for the primary applicant, A$240 for the secondary applicant over 18, and A$120 each for additional applicants under 18 years of age.

Both processing times and costs are often subject to change so it’s always advisable to check the Department’s official website for the latest 887 visa news and updates or speak to a migration professional for expert recommendations.

      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Got some more specific questions about business visa requirements to Australia? Here are some
of the most common ones alongside our responses.

      What is 887 visa?

This is a permanent resident visa for regional workers in Australia who hold or have already held provisional visas such as subclass 475 or 487, and have fulfilled the requirements of that eligible visa. If successful, you can live and work in Australia indefinitely, travel for five (5) years, and avail of government benefits such as Medicare.

Why 887 visa taking so long?

Visa application delays are normal and are usually based off of key factors including the time it takes to obtain information from external sources in regards to health, character, and security checks, volume of applications, the thoroughness and accuracy of your submitted requirements, and more. That said, avoid delays through the things you can control, such as making sure to send error-free forms and documents so that the Department will not have to request for additional info.

      Is 887 visa permanent?

Yes, it is a permanent resident visa for individuals who have lived and worked in Australia in either a low-population area or a designated region in Australia for regional work purposes.

What type of visa is subclass 887?

This PR visa falls under working and skilled visas in Australia. It’s exclusive for skilled regional migrant workers who are or were in an eligible visa, such as subclass 489 or 495.

How long does it take to process 887 visa?

Processing times take from 2 to 21 months.

I trusted Parish Patience with my migration and skills assessment process and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Initially, I was advised by Mr Golam and Upasana to proceed with my Subclass 485 pathway. Based on their advice, I paid for skills assessment and also completed a PTE exam. However, I later found out that an important requirement for my VETASSESS application — having at least one year of relevant post-qualification work experience — had not been clearly explained to me before lodging the application. My application was submitted using work experience from before my studies and the outcome was negative. After that, I was advised that applying through Engineers Australia using the CDR pathway would be easier and would give me a better chance of receiving a positive skills assessment outcome. I followed their advice again, paid additional fees, but unfortunately received another negative outcome. During this process, two separate Subclass 485 visa applications were lodged and later withdrawn. I experienced significant financial loss through application fees, assessments, and English testing costs. I was fortunate that I still held a valid student visa, which made it possible to withdraw the applications without further complications. From my personal experience, I felt the communication, assessment of eligibility, and overall service quality were poor. I also did not receive any compensation or satisfactory resolution for the losses I experienced. I hope future clients receive clearer advice about eligibility requirements and possible risks before committing financially.
