Before rolling your sleeves up for the Australia visa 870, you need to do a self-check on your eligibility first. Make sure that your sponsor is an approved Parent Sponsor and that you have a valid passport with you.

Then, you need to ensure that you have a valid proof of identity by presenting your passport and a national identity card, if you have one. If you have changes in your name or other personal details after your passport was released, you need to submit a proof of change of name. This proof may be a marriage or divorce certificate, documents from the national registry, and documents that show other names you have been known for such as birth certificates.
You will need to have your character documents and health check results ready and complete. All of these documents must be in English. Otherwise, you must have them translated first and attach in your application the original
documents. Scan all your documents (English and non-English) in colour and make sure that they are clear and readable.

Once all your visa requirements are complete and are scanned, you will now be ready to send your application online. You need to be outside of Australia when your application is lodged.
If you have been granted with the Permission to Apply letter, you must submit your application within 60 days after your sponsorship is approved. Failure to apply within this timeframe may prompt your sponsor to reapply for the Permission to Apply in Australia.
If in any case the Permission to Apply is not granted, you will have to apply for the visa from outside of Australia within six months after the sponsorship approval or apply for a different visa type.

After your application is successfully lodged, you can track and monitor the progress through ImmiAccount. You will be prompted in case you need to provide additional information, undergo further medical examination, or submit additional requirements.
While waiting for the decision, you will need to pay for the second instalment due once you receive an invoice from the Department.
If for some reason you wish to withdraw your application, you need to immediately notify the Department by providing a written notification and following the necessary steps.

Provided that you have fulfilled all necessary requirements, you will receive a written notification whether your visa
application is approved or refused. If approved, the notification letter will provide you with important details of your visa. If refused, the letter will explain the reason why your application is turned down and a notification whether you are entitled to a review of decision.
