This visa allows parents, legal guardians, or relatives of a minor to live in Australia to provide financial, physical, and emotional support to a minor. Student Guardian Visa Conditions

In order to qualify and be eligible for a student guardian visa grant, you must first meet the following conditions:

• You must be the parent, relative, or a legal guardian of the student visa holder
• You must provide evidence of adequate financial means to support your stay in Australia
• You must provide accommodation and other forms of support
• You must be at least 21 years of age
• You must be of good moral character
• You must undergo and pass health requirements

Australian Student Guardian Visa Requirements

You must have the following documents in order to obtain an Australian student guardian visa:

Valid Identification Documents

You must provide a valid passport and other identity documents, such as a National ID card, driver’s licence, etc.

Application Form

You must submit and complete the visa application form online.

Form 157N

It must be filled out by the student visa applicant and you must submit this in your application for a student guardian visa using your ImmiAccount.

Financial Proof

You must prove you can sustain yourself and the student in Australia as a student guardian. Generally, this means you (or a partner who will financially support you and the student in Australia, but is not coming with you) have at least an annual income of A$72,592.

Health Insurance

In order to ensure you’ll have coverage for unforeseen circumstances during your stay in Australia, you must have adequate health insurance for at least the first year.

GTE Statement

A Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) document outlines your genuine intent to stay in Australia only temporarily, typically until your child, who is studying in Australia on a student visa, finishes his or her education in an Australian institution.

Student Guardian Visa Application Process

All applications for student guardian visa subclass 590 must be lodged online.

An ImmiAccount is where you can apply for a student guardian visa as paper applications are not accepted. Here’s the link to create an account: https://online.immi.gov.au/lusc/register

After creating an ImmiAccount, you can now proceed with filling out the application form for your student guardian visa. The online service system will allow you to select the specific form you need to fill out.

The next step is to provide the necessary documents to support your application. Make sure that these documents are all correct and complete.

The last step is to make the payment online and wait as your application is being reviewed and processed.

Can I Work in Australia on a Guardian’s Visa?

A person who has a guardian’s visa can work in Australia? The answer is no. As the intent and main purpose of having a student guardian visa is to financially and emotionally support an international student who is a minor, student guardian visa holders are not permitted by law to work in Australia.

However, said visa holders are allowed or encouraged to enrol and study English for no longer than 20 hours per week, especially if it’s not their native language. You may also undergo training or apply to a non-English course for up to three (3) months.

590 Student Guardian Visa Processing Time and Fees

Your application’s completeness, the number of applicants, and other uncontrollable circumstances affect processing times. Processing Time

Student guardian visa processing time takes about four (4) to seven (7) months, which could take longer if you submit incomplete documents. Make sure to submit all necessary information and promptly respond to requests for additional information from the Department (if any).

Application Cost

A guardian student visa application cost A$620. This money is non-refundable if your visa application is denied. Not needless to say, the fees can go higher if you are applying with another family member.
