Aspiring to permanently live and work in Australia? The subclass 190 visa is a points test visa that lets you reside Down Under indefinitely after a successful state or territory government nomination for a skilled occupation.
The Nominated Skilled Visa under Subclass 190 is a points-based visa that allows eligible skilled workers to obtain a permanent resident status if they are nominated by an Australian state or territory government.
With this visa they can live, work, and study anywhere in the country, sponsor eligible family members and relatives for permanent residency, and later apply to become an Australian citizen once eligible.
To qualify for a 190 visa grant, you must first fulfil the following requirements:
With the high volume of applications being received over the years, your goal must be to increase your points to gain an advantage amid the high competition. This involves getting a higher English proficiency test result, finishing a Bachelor’s degree or higher, and gaining relevant work experience that’s included in the skilled occupations list.

To make sure you’re on the right track, follow these steps for your visa 190 application process:
1
While you could do this by yourself, consider hiring an immigration lawyer or a registered migration agent to give you expert advice, assess your overall eligibility, and explore your visa options.
2
If upon assessment you are eligible for this visa type, you must now submit an Expression of Interest or EOI to SkillSelect.
3
If after checking your EOI and assessing your skills and qualifications you were deemed eligible, a state or territory may nominate you, after which you will be invited to apply for this visa.
4
You should lodge your visa application online within 60 days after receiving an invitation. Do not forget to submit all the necessary and correct documents.
5
190 visa processing times currently take about 12 to 18 months. You can check the status of your visa application via your ImmiAccount. You will receive a visa decision in writing.
An invitation round is a systematic approach that the Australian Government implements to carefully select migrant workers who will contribute to the country’s skilled workforce and address labour shortages nationwide.
Invitation rounds happen all year round. The nominating authorities do not publicly announce dates as to when they will assess, select, and approve applications. This also means you can submit your EOI anytime within the financial year and not worry about it affecting your chances of being approved or refused a 190 visa.
In addition, careful selection of candidates who submitted their EOIs to be nominated involves an assessment of their English language proficiency and skilled occupation experience.
Candidates who are applying for occupations that are considered a priority will be prioritised and therefore have better chances of a permanent visa grant, provided they meet all other requirements.
